Does your seasonal workforce consist of different nationalities? Here are some tips on how to improve cultural integration and teamwork.

1. Break down language barriers

  • Create a vocabulary book with the most important words and phrases

  • Refer to language apps – for example, Duolingo (en.duolingo.com)

  • Avoid complicated technical language

2. Clear rules and distribution of tasks

  • Tasks, processes, break times: everything should be documented in writing and in multiple languages and accessible to everyone.

  • Train new employees using the buddy principle with experienced employees

3. Appoint a contact person

  • Appoint a permanent contact person in the team who is available to answer questions or help with problems.

  • Ideally, this should be an experienced employee with an open manner and intercultural understanding

4. Team-building measures

  • Convey a sense of team spirit from the outset – for example, through introductory rounds

  • Joint events and activities such as barbecues or hiking trips

5. Appreciate culture

  • Respect eating habits and religious customs

  • Small gestures such as displaying national flags in the accommodation show appreciation

6. Enable feedback

  • Short weekly team meetings

  • Active questioning

7. Motivation through benefits

  • Make recognition for good teamwork visible – for example, through benefits
